Auto Warranties

The Bumper to Bumper Warranty is the most elaborate portion of a vehicle manufacturer’s Factory Guaranty, that covers all parts and systems, apart from those in particular excluded ,eg certain “wear” items like tires and wiper blades. Normally, bumper-to-bumper warranties cover everything from major mechanical repairs to even some outwardly minor details.

Essentially all new cars come with bumper-to-bumper warranties. Those warranties are for a fixed term ,eg 3 years or 36,000 miles. That guaranty will expire whenever the first threshold is met. A 2 year old car with 40,000 miles on it which is covered by the three year / 36,000 mile guaranty will be out of warranty. By the same principle, a 4 years old auto with only 25,000 miles will also be out of warranty. Warranty terms are often a selling feature promoted by auto makers. As an example, on some new vehicles, you might find five year / Fifty thousand mile warranties, or even 10 year / 100,000 mile guaranties. New automobile customers are known to buy vehicles based mostly on guaranties.

By name at least, the bumper-to-bumper car warranty provides complete and exhaustive coverage for your new car. You might think that a bumper-to-bumper guaranty will cover every last feature and condition on the car. But, alas, likely it won’t. Bumper-to-bumper doesn’t necessarily include every square inch of a vehicle from one bumper to the other. Bumper-to-bumper warranties are generally called exclusionary in their coverage. This means they supply coverage for all breakdowns except parts especially itemized in the guaranty. These warranties typically cover elements like air conditioning, vehicle sensors, fuel systems, drive-trains, and major electric elements. At the same time, a bumper-to-bumper warranty may in particular exclude from coverage such issues as scheduled upkeep, adjustments, and wear items ; batteries and trim ; after-market equipment ; noises, including rattles, squeaks and wind noise ; body damage ; and various various items ,eg satellite / GPS / video systems, emissions, CD changers and audio systems, and a breakdown due to crash, fire, burglary, freezing, overheating, electric fire or collapse, vandalism, flood, and any jeopardy insurable under standard damage insurance protection. In the sense that these policies are exclusionary, generally speaking, if you don’t see a condition excluded, it’s covered.

Auto makers also can include numerous convenience features , such as roadside assistance, hotel stays, rental car, towing, and nationwide coverage. These features are commonly called a “peace of mind” assurance.

Bumper-to-bumper guaranties provide a cornucopia of cover against car repair bills. As mentioned not every single possible issue with a car will be covered by the guaranty, but many are. They are definitely a nice feature of the new auto. For the protection of the purchaser , however, guaranties must be read and closely watched. Exclusions exist, and could well lead to high-priced, unexpected repair bills which are the responsibility of the auto owner.
